ReplyPosted : (Thursday 20th March 2008 ) By - Techboy (Unregistered User) You know, for people who think you know what’s going on, you know [expletive deleted]. You know nothing of how it’s funded or run now so shut the [expletive deleted] up. You seem to forget why this whole project got off the ground???? to assist in making people more ICT aware, and it looks like it did just that by the people who kick the project when it’s down. It’s never going to compare to the BT's/Virgin/TalkTalks so do one to the numpteys that fink it is!!! What it has done is bring a far reaching community together and never professed to be on the same par as a BT/Virgin ISP and as much as ACE goes on about he only uses it for email and news, he's still with Eastserve because it still provides the basics, no phone line and an instant and flexible service. In stead of knocking it, former customers should be praising it for the awareness and footing it has given them. So a big applause to the Eastserve project for giving us the voice we have now, be it negative or positive, I applaud you....Thank You

Eastserve

Hi

Posting just to ensure people don't associate me with the swearing and personal attacks on users that still happen like the previous posts. I have a lot of knowledge regarding the Eastserve project, and it would be unfair on Eastserve to divulge what I know, my knowledge comes from being actively involved to talking to people at the highest level in westminster. What I post are my personal thoughts and experiences of Eastserve and nothing more.

The Eastserve Project as it was intended when it was first launched is no more FACT

What started with opportunies for the community to be directly involved in a project is no more FACT

Eastserve is a broadband provider only FACT

Eastserve has to make money to survive FACT

I only wish to distinguish the differences between what was and what you now see. People who complain about Eastserve as a broadband provider, first need to look at how wireless works and the problems it can bring, pockets of people will have a variety of problems with wireless reception, and they are usually caused by other operators equipment, the environment, trees and buildings, access point line of site etc, nothing Eastserve can do about that, and I am sure they will have tried most things that could be done.

Wireless broadband in East Manchester was a fantastic idea and has been implemented with a great deal of success, yes it had its network design faults and various in-house problems, and I am quite sure if proper management of the project had been put in place then we would now be looking at a world class community broadband service.

If I have any grievances with Eastserve then it is at the upper management level and nothing to do with the broadband provider side of things, and I think that is where some people get their wires get crossed when complaining about Eastserve. I believe Eastserve should have fully embraced the idea of community involvement or split into two groups, broadband provider and a seperate community based group.

A few words regarding the website, nothing to do with Eastserve what so ever. In fact if you go to most of the websites where it says "Choose a Site" you will see the same identical information. I can't say I am happy about that either, what happened to individuality, since MCIN have been involved and took over they are boring with nothing in common with the areas they are meant to be representing, merely a portal. So who do I blame for this, not MCIN, could it be the same upper management that I also believe killed the Eastserve project, you know who would be top of my list (Mr Sean Mc Gonigle).

Communication and keeping people informed has always been a problem with Eastserve and maybe things would improve for them with a bit honesty regarding the project coming from someone like Sean. People in the know see a broadband provider, nothing to do with community. So come clean and maybe we can all start singing Eastserve praises about a broadband wireless service provider that works for many and has changed people lives in East Manchester including myself.

Cheers

Happy easter technoboy and well said I agree with evrything you say
yes eastserve is simply an ISP a pretty good one I find ok I`ve had the odd problem but nothing life threatening as you might think by some of the whingers and whiners and if those same people think BT and other providers do`nt have problems they live in cloud cukcoo land I have friends on other networks all at some time complained of loss of service usually to be told we know but it is beyond our control but we are working on it So why ca`nt they accept they have a pretty fair service at a fair price
Long may it continue
Oh I do`nt use the forums now as it can take days to get things posted

No more flagship anymore

I agree, Eastserve is no longer the flagship development initiative it set out to be in the beginning, although in some parts of greater manchester, maybe not East Manchester, it is still spoken about as if it is.
And yes your right it is simply a broadband supplier, who for some i can gather from this site it works. Unfortunately that isn't the case for friends of mine who used or still use the service.
I recently advised one friend she would be better off getting her phone back on and signing up to a recognised ISP than constantly dealing with the problems she was experiencing with her Eastserve service.
No more constantly dropped connections for her, no more restrictions on what she can do. For free, because they supply her phone service, she gets a fast broadband connection and can now watch as much multimedia rich content as she likes.
And therein lies the rub. Many people for lots of reasons cant afford a landline telephone, with out which you've had it no superfast broadband for you! For those on limited incomes, if you get a phone line installed it's all too easy to go too far run up a bill you can't afford and then end up with your phone line disconnected.
If the government really wanted to do something about the digital devide they would make sure that outrageous BT, (we don't care about our customers cause we've got a monopoly, it's not our department let me pass you on to 10 more rude arrogant people who will tell you its not their department, and we wont respond to your letters of complaint) were made to supply data lines for no fee or at least a very minimum fee.
Another of my friends had problems with her Eastserve service recently and after going in that very bizare shop on, is it the new or old road, and being promised they would come out and look at the ariel thingy, then after a week when she rang to see when they were coming and being told they didn't say they would come a guy turned up and told her it could be her computer and that everyone had to take it back to factory default sometimes, even him.
Can I just state for the record, i have had computer since 14 kb/s modems (so even before 56k flex) and i have never once had to take my computer back to factory default.
& this text input box disappearing off the screen still isn't fixed
