Becoming a Community Reporter

Manchester Community Reporters (MCRs) cover the area they live in and people they know. Their reports feature on local websites, their own personal websites and potentially on other local media like the BBC. Reports can be in the form of words, pictures, sound and video.

Community Reporters get help in using new technology such as mp3 recorders and digital cameras - or just mobile phones! Then use new web tools to publish their work, such as:

blogs - easy to create personal web pages or diaries

podcasts - sound files that you can download and listen to when you want, on your computer or portable player

Web Connect Community Reporters is a partnership project between:

MCIN (Manchester Community Information Network): Project coordinators, training and production organisers

BBC Manchester: Masterclasses and work experience

Mancat (Manchester College of Arts and Technology): Facilities and routes into further training.

Together we aim to give more people in Manchester the chance to have their say.

For more information or to get involved in the project please contact MCIN on 0161 230 1430 or info@mcin.net

Or visit the main Community Reporters site at www.mywebconnect.info. This site features the best of the community reporters' work, with links to each reporter’s personal blog. It gives the background to the project and latest news.
