Subject - The Blue card project

Posted : (Monday 20th November 2006 ) By - Jane (Registered User)The Blue card project: A new resource to help support young people in or at risk of detention.

The detention experience is distressing and it is exacerbated by a lack of information. Save the Children, Get Connected and AVID (Association of Visitors to Immigration Detainees) have worked together to produce a new resource called the Blue Card that will help to prepare children and young people for the detention process and give them access to essential information to help them to access appropriate services and know their rights in detention. It also offers practical support through the provision of toiletries and phone cards.

We hope to distribute the Blue Card to young people at risk of being detained through professionals who can offer advice and guidance about the detention experience, in addition to explaining how to use the card and the service that Get Connected can offer.

We are offering training for agencies in the Northwest working with young people on the Blue card and the detention process. This training can be adapted to meet the needs of your organisation.
